Tyler Perry Joins Keisha Lance Bottoms’ Georgia Transition Team

Tyler Perry will help guide Georgia’s transfer of power after Governor-elect Keisha Lance Bottoms named him co-chair of her transition team.

Variety reports that the filmmaker and studio owner joined the Georgia’s Promise transition operation as Bottoms prepares to take office. The appointment puts one of the state’s most visible entertainment figures inside the group shaping the new administration’s early agenda.

Bottoms won the governor’s race this week and made history as Georgia’s first Black governor. She will also become the first Black woman to serve as a governor anywhere in the United States. AllHipHop covered the victory as results came in.

Perry shares transition leadership with a group drawn from business, public service and civic organizations. The co-chairs include Arthur Blank, former Walgreens Boots Alliance chief Roz Brewer, attorney Jason Carter and former U.S. Senate candidate Michelle Nunn. Georgia Insurance Commissioner John King is serving as the transition’s chief operating officer.

The group is expected to help Bottoms review state agencies, recruit senior staff and turn campaign priorities into plans for the opening months of her administration. Her stated priorities include health care access, criminal justice reform, mental health diversion courts, flood recovery and the rapid growth of data centers across Georgia.

Perry’s place on the team reflects his long footprint in the state. Tyler Perry Studios occupies a large production campus in Atlanta, and his film and television operation has become a major part of Georgia’s entertainment economy. He has also used his platform for relief work and community aid in the region.

Variety also placed the appointment against Perry’s current legal disputes.

The producer faces civil lawsuits accusing him of sexual assault and other misconduct, allegations he has denied. In one of those cases, AllHipHop reported that Perry asked a court to keep private text messages out of public filings.

Transition co-chairs shape the handoff by bringing leaders into the planning process and helping the governor-elect test ideas before inauguration. Perry’s role gives Atlanta’s film and television sector a direct voice in that work.

The transition team is moving ahead as Bottoms prepares for January. More policy advisers and personnel choices are expected as the incoming administration reviews agencies and builds its first governing plan.
