The atmosphere was set for recognising leadership, commitment, and strength as the Jamaican American Law Enforcement Organization (JAMLEO) celebrated individuals whose contributions continue to uplift and strengthen communities.
Among the distinguished honorees was Christopher "Chris" Chin, CEO of VP Records, who received the Community Award at the organisation’s fourth annual Awards & Scholarship Gala, held on Friday, November 6, at Floral Terrace in Floral Park, New York.
The evening brought together law enforcement professionals, community leaders, and members of the Jamaican diaspora, including Jamaica's Consul General to New York, Oliver Mair; New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch; and JAMLEO President, Lieutenant Danae McFarlane.
Chin was recognised for his outstanding contributions to the community and his longstanding commitment to preserving and elevating Jamaican culture through music and community engagement. As CEO of VP Records, the world's largest independent reggae and dancehall record label, Chin has played an instrumental role in expanding the global reach of Jamaican music while strengthening cultural connections between Jamaica and its diaspora.

"Throughout my journey, I have come to understand that though success may open doors for us, it is service that keeps the doors open for others," said Chin. "At VP Records, we have dedicated ourselves to preserving Jamaica's rich musical heritage, amplifying the voices of our people, and carrying our culture beyond borders." The recognition underscores Chin's enduring contribution to Jamaican music and culture, as well as the important role of community leadership in preserving heritage, creating opportunities, and inspiring future generations. "I was brought up to believe the future is not something we simply inherit, but something we have a responsibility to build," Chin shared, dedicating the honor to his family, the VP Records team, its artistes, and the wider Jamaican community.
