North Richmond rapper Luis “Weez Gotti” Rincon has been sentenced to 41 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to a gun charge.
The Mercury News reported the sentence, bringing the latest chapter of his federal case to an end with three years and five months behind bars.
Weez Gotti, 30, was charged on April 22 with being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition under federal law. An official federal court record shows that a magistrate judge ordered him detained after a May 5 hearing.
The case began with a coordinated arrest at Weez Gotti’s North Richmond home. Crime Voice reported that U.S. Marshals and Contra Costa County sheriff’s deputies took him into custody on a federal warrant.
The outlet said officers recovered firearms and suspected drugs during the search and alleged that Weez Gotti tried to flee through a window before his arrest.
The May detention order focused on the firearm accusation and the rapper’s history.
The judge cited prior weapons convictions, evading police and violations of post-release community supervision. The order also said Weez Gotti was on parole when the charged conduct allegedly occurred and concluded that no release conditions would reasonably protect the community.
Before sentencing, federal prosecutors asked the judge to impose four years in prison.
He responded with a personal letter describing music as an outlet and reflecting on years spent in the criminal justice system. “The streets took everything from me, Your Honor,” he wrote.
The 41-month sentence came in seven months below the government’s request. It also followed Weez Gotti’s guilty plea to the firearm charge, resolving the central federal count without a trial.
