What Will Dr. Dre Do With His AI Double Down?

We already know Dr. Dre loves AI. A recent chat with Ice Cube and Mike Epps has him leaning in harder.

Dr. Dre embraced artificial intelligence over apprehension during an appearance on “Listen & Laugh” with Ice Cube and Mike Epps as he championed its creative potential in music and movies.

The legendary producer offered an enthusiastic endorsement of AI technology that he believes could expand artistic possibilities.

“I am extremely excited about AI, I love it. I love the potential of it, I love the idea of where it could possibly go with music and film.”

Dre’s enthusiasm extended beyond the recording studio and he suggested his former NWA pal could use AI for acting. Maybe a new Friday that has the original characters? I think I see where Dre is headed with this. He dd not say that, FYI.

His focus was on possibility.

Then he said what we knew he’d say.

“It’s just a whole new level of creativity, I think the only people are going to be mad about AI are people that aren’t that creative.” Well, not that last part. I see so many terrible versions of AI that I am not sure this lines up with my views. I do get what Dre is saying.

That statement moved the discussion from what a machine might accomplish to how an artist might respond. Dre might be plotting something, because why else is he going this hard with it?

Also, it is important to note that Dre’s genius and cache in the culture makes him unique in the industry. For the average person, not so much. Also, we really dd not get into any granular details on what sort of AI he was talking. The larger convo is above.

Which applications does he envision? Excitement about AI in music and film can encompass many possibilities, but bro was vague. Was that on purpose? I don’t know.

For now, the clearest takeaway is Dre’s willingness to embrace experimentation. He described AI as another avenue for creativity and showed little patience for the idea that its arrival should automatically inspire anger.

The attention grabber was his assessment of skeptics and they weighed in as expected – in the comments. I am not judging anybody. Creators get there one way or another. We’ll see.
