Wiz Khalifa Gets New Shot At Fighting Nine-Month Prison Sentence

Wiz Khalifa won a new chance to fight his nine-month prison term in Romania. The guilty verdict still stands.

The Bucharest court let one part of his bid move forward Tuesday. It threw out a second part. The court will take up his bid next week.

The case stems from July 2024, when Wiz smoked weed on stage in Costinesti. Tuesday’s ruling let him claim that the court had failed to stick to the rules.

The court’s case record states, translated from Romanian: “Pursuant to Article 431 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, in conjunction with Article 426(a) of the Code of Criminal Procedure, [the court] admits, in principle, the annulment challenge filed by T.C.J. against criminal decision No. 1222/P of December 18, 2025, issued by the Constanta Court of Appeal in case No. 7777/118/2024.”

The court used T.C.J. for Wiz’s name.

The part of his bid that cleared this first stage deals with notice of a court date. The law covers those who were not told of the court date in the right way. Those who were told of the date can also bring this claim if they could neither be there nor tell the court why.

Judges have not ruled that this happened in Wiz’s case. They let that claim pass the first test so they can hear it on its merits.

The same order adds: “Pursuant to Article 432(1) of the Code of Criminal Procedure, [the court] sets a hearing for the annulment challenge on October 29, 2026, at 1 P.M., for which the defendant’s chosen lawyer shall be notified.”

Wiz first faced a fine of 3,600 lei. The state pushed for jail time. The Constanta Court of Appeal sentenced him to nine months in December 2025. He was found guilty of having weed for his own use.

He failed to get the jail term thrown out in February. The top court sent the case to Bucharest in September.

The court took up this first stage last week but did not rule on it until Tuesday. His next chance to ask for the sentence to be thrown out is October 29.
