On Wednesday (September 2), Detective Eric Barnes took the stand in the Mo3 murder trial to break down a crucial timeline of text messages, financial transactions, and movements that prosecutors say prove Kewon White orchestrated the killing for Yella Beezy.
The Dallas police detective walked the jury through communications between three phones belonging to Trap Boy Freddy, Yella Beezy, and Jerry Johnson starting November 11, 2020, the day rapper Mo3 was shot and killed on I-35.
The text messages paint a picture of coordination and coded language. On November 21, Yella Beezy texted Freddy, asking him to “connect me with your people,” and Freddy responded from Los Angeles that he had “no signal on the plane.”
When Trap Boy Freddy said he was “coming,” Yella Beezy responded with “Bro, trying to burn out. Connect me with your people.”
Barnes explained that “burn out” means leaving an area or getting out of town, something he said was corroborated by Kewon White’s movements the following day.
The detective highlighted a critical exchange about money.
Trap Boy Freddy texted Yella Beezy about “change in the couch,” which Barnes identified as coded language referencing payment.
Beezy responded, “I’ve been asking you for three days. People blowing me up.”
The prosecutor asked Detective Barnes directly: “Based off your investigation, was this coded language regarding the payment?” Barnes answered, “Based on my investigation, yes, they’re discussing pay.”
