Yung Miami Says “Spend Dat” Success Gave Her Anxiety Before Solo Debut

Yung Miami finally landed the solo hit artists dream about, and it apparently came with a side effect she did not expect: anxiety.

In a new Billboard interview published Wednesday (November 4), the former City Girls rapper said the success of “Spend Dat” made her go back and “hone in” on her debut solo album, Watch Dis.

The song had raised the bar at the exact moment she was preparing to introduce herself as a full-length solo artist.

“I was excited, but I was like, ‘Damn, this is big.’ I want this album to just be great, which I feel like it was. It really made me go back and hone in. Make sure that the album was top to bottom the way I needed it to be,” Yung Miami.

That is a different kind of pressure. Miami was not trying to recreate the record beat for beat. She was trying to make sure the rest of the album could stand beside the biggest solo song of her career.

“Spend Dat” peaked at No. 17 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 2 on the Hot Rap Songs chart, according to the official album announcement. The single was also certified platinum.

The admission adds another layer to a comeback that Miami has framed as a response to being counted out.

When she announced the album, she said she could have returned with one song and played it safe, but she had enough confidence in the music to release “F You” and “2008” on the same day. Watch Dis arrived October 23 through Uptown Records and later debuted at No. 138 on the Billboard 200.

The rapper also told SPIN that she had learned to stop treating social-media commentary as real life.

“You cannot get caught up in that stuff,” she said, explaining that strangers online no longer get to dictate her mood or next move.

That lesson did not erase the pressure that followed “Spend Dat.” Instead, Miami used it as a reason to return to the album and tighten the work. The hit gave her a victory, but it also gave her a new standard to meet.
