Roadblock Radio

Caribbean Radio in Maryland

Baltimore, Prince George's County, Silver Spring and Columbia listen over the internet, free, with the full schedule intact.

Online only in Maryland. The stream, the apps and the smart speakers all carry the full broadcast.

Prince George's County holds one of the largest Caribbean and African populations in the mid-Atlantic, and Baltimore has carried a Jamaican community for three generations. Roadblock Radio serves both online. There is no Maryland transmitter and the site will not invent one.

What the stream gives instead is the whole week. Afrobeats sits beside dancehall on International Mix, the reggae catalogue runs on Back To Basics and Vintage Showcase, and the soca shows do not disappear once carnival season ends.

Listening is free in a browser, in the iPhone and Android apps, on Alexa and through iHeart, TuneIn and Audacy.

What plays

Reggae

Roots, rocksteady, lovers rock and the singers carrying it now. Culture Time and Back To Basics are where the catalogue lives.

Dancehall

The current riddims and the ones that built them, mixed live by DJs who play the parties as well as the radio.

Soca

Trinidad, Barbados, Antigua and the whole carnival calendar. Island Vibez and Roadblock Island Mix run it every week.

Afrobeats

Lagos and Accra sitting next to Kingston and Port of Spain, the way they sit next to each other in a Caribbean party.

Reggaeton and Latin urban

DJ B19 takes Saturday evenings for the Latin urban hour, so the dial does not stop at the English-speaking Caribbean.

Talk and community

Community Connection on Sunday afternoons, and Wealth Mornings With Jen every weekday at noon.
